Touching up highlights yourself may be risky. Dark brown hair could have gray coverage with dark brown, dark ash brown, medium brown,reddish brown, or bright red, depending on what color you want your end result to be. Golden blonde would make your grays a golden color and lighten the dark brown to a golden brown or possiblly reddish or orange.. Working on top of highlights presents a challenge since you have several colors in your hair.ALWAYS do a strand test on a section of your hair before committing to coloring your entire head. This will insure that you actually like the end result. Always use the color full strength on gray hair and dilute the rest of the color mixture by half with water before applying to previously colored hair.
