Thanks Lisa, for the quick reply. My own color is dark ash brown, but it has red undertones. When you say that using a red or golden shade to cover the gray will also somewhat change the non-gray is this because some color is lifted particularily if I leave it on for 35 minutes to soften the gray? Another words there is no way the gray hair can be opened up to receive color without this impacting to some degree the rest? I have gone 3 times to an Aveda salon ( also botanical coloring) so no longer have virgin hair. I am not happy with the results (a not-pretty brown with too many red hightlights) for the huge price so have thought to tackle this myself, but............am not to sure if I should! Could you give an opinion?
