No I wasn't allergic to any conventinal haircolors - I have just become more aware of what we are putting in and on our bodies-things that are toxic. I have a good bit of gray in the top of my hair. The back is still naturally dark brown. This product covered my gray nicely. I'm very happy with the results. Yes, my cheeks have reddened somewhat with age i guess. What you are suggesting doing with your haircolor sounds nice. I may try ordering 2 different colors this time and play around with it. The product is very easy to use.
