RE: red tone

There are several reasons for fadage.   If you use a shampoo that has lauryl sulfates, castor oil,tea tree or castille, this may encourage fadage. Longer textured hair may be porous and fade more quickly. Application of full strength haircolor from root to end may make your ends porous. Always apply the haircolor mixture diluted by half with water to the previously colored ends. If all else fails, try using a pigmented shampoo inbetween color applications that has a brown tone.
