The instructions say to apply color (in this case black or dark brown) to gray at full strength to cover it. It then says "always apply color to darker areas when attempting to lighten your hair". The black/dark brown color will lighten my hair?! That does not make sense to me. I must be misunderstanding. Please explain. I want to cover my gray but I want to retain my natural black/dark brown hair on the rest of my head!
