first time... no grey coverage & too light : (

i wish i had read this board about gray coverage and the lighter results before i tried the product.    i used the 4 ash brown, which is the same number i've used in the past with other products. i also did the strand test but since it was underneath i thought the lightening was because the hair is darker underneath/back of my head. now my roots are lighter than the rest of my hair and the greys are still there - very disappointing.    if i decide to try this again, can you clarify what i read in bits across the postings here:    • apply color to roots • apply heat to roots for 5 minutes • reapply color to roots • set timer for 45 minutes • after 45 minutes dilute the color and apply to the rest of the hair for 10 minutes • shampoo/conditions with no-sulfate/ite products    i am <10% grey, but most of it is along my hairline and part. would it be better to do an all over color that is lighter to "blend" the greys (like sticking with the dark ash brown) or go darker with a combination of black and brown?
